End of a long sunday

Just a quick note to keep up the blogging, the sermon from yesterday was received well, despite the fact i thought it was slightly controversial (maybe not, perhaps i was just stating the obvious). I was interested to see Conrad Gempf's take on it - a wonderfully thoughtful way of expressing that the statement Jesus made was a test - good to read a solid bit of exegesis that disagrees with mine!

On another note, I'm quite pleased with increase in blog traffic here, but not many comments! I was also interested to see that i was surfed by the pentagon a few days ago - maybe because in one newspaper article which referred to the Iranian President's entry into the blogsphere he was described as 'New Kid On The Blog'.

there are a few of us with that name, but i've not found one older than mine yet, so i can at least feel a bit original...

Again on another note, i have enjoyed using blogger but am increasingly seeing blogs which say that typepad(?) is more flexible, easier to use, greater capacity - I have no idea and have no desire to move, the only frustration i have had is not being able to figure out how to put two sidebar columns on my blog so the right hand bar has got longer and longer... Anyone got any thoughts on that, or anything else, that they want to share?

there is now a beta version of blogger available with much more flexibility added, especially in terms of tagging posts. google beta help

Well, I know nothing yet about beta blogger, though I'm interested yes. What I do know is that I think Jesus didn't make a mistake and yet we witness him changing his mind ... I don't think any of us in changing direction and emphasis therefore were mistaken beforehand, just differenly aligned (hope that's enough poitically correct bollocks for one comment).

But surely making a mistake emphasises Jesus' being like us - we do make mistakes, and it was perhaps a mistake for him to dismiss this woman so cruelly....

A Sermon which upset someone

So, I'm not a theological conservative.  That probably comes across in pretty much everything I write, but I thought I should say it.  I believe myself to be orthodox, however, and hold to those things which the Church expresses in the catholic creeds.  I also have a relatively 'high' theology regarding the inspiration of Scripture. But I am not a Biblical literalist, nor do I hold to a doctrine of the infallibility of Scripture. I can't.  The Bible is too rich, too deep, too difficult, too flawed for that.  And by flawed I mean I understand it to be the record of human beings trying to make sense of God at work.  It has the breath of the Spirit blowing through it's words and on every page, but when we try and make sense of God there is a chance we will go awry....
