Thought for the week further catch up!

This one is from the second week in Lent! I will get through them all soon, promise
On the whole our national news media seem to enjoy pointing out the mistakes made by the Church at large or the points at which it struggles. My experience of Church has been, though, that the true face of the Church is the local fellowship – though I am happy to be a part of a wider Church family and I hold my Bishops in great respect. In the end, don’t judge Christian Faith by news reports (except the good things our local papers say!). If you want to explore faith, and see the Christian life in action look to Christians around you, to your local fellowships of all different traditions, to those who are seeking on a day to day basis to follow Jesus. We do fail, we make mistakes, but we are trying with God’s help to live and share the Good News of Jesus Christ where we are.

I just had a discussion with someone who said she won't go to church because Priests have sex with children. I responded that not ALL priests have sex with children and that the Catholic church was not the only path to God. Then I asked if she had even tried to find another church when her's disillusioned her. At that point she told me she had no wish to discuss religion with me. I refrained from pointing out that she started the conversation, or from telling her she needed a less flimsy excuse for not attending church.

I do however need a response because she comes into my orbit often and every time she sees me she attacks my beliefs (in front of everybody) with that same topic.

Another sermon - as seems to be the way of this blog at present! A Sermon which upset someone

So, I'm not a theological conservative.  That probably comes across in pretty much everything I write, but I thought I should say it.  I believe myself to be orthodox, however, and hold to those things which the Church expresses in the catholic creeds.  I also have a relatively 'high' theology regarding the inspiration of Scripture. But I am not a Biblical literalist, nor do I hold to a doctrine of the infallibility of Scripture. I can't.  The Bible is too rich, too deep, too difficult, too flawed for that.  And by flawed I mean I understand it to be the record of human beings trying to make sense of God at work.  It has the breath of the Spirit blowing through it's words and on every page, but when we try and make sense of God there is a chance we will go awry.... 'Hey lets condemn (and or murder) pretty much everyone who isn't in our tribe, that's obviously what God wants' kind of awry.  And if we study this book carefully then we see that ideas
